The Scoop on the iPhone 5S and 5C

On September 20, you can pick up your own colorful iPhone and explore the exciting iOS7 operating system — complete with sleek graphics-friendly interface and new sounds. Before you dive in, consider the advantages and disadvantages of the upgraded iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, compared to past models:

iPhone 5S

  • Upsides: Longer battery life, thanks to a more energy-efficient processor, and a lock that works by identifying your fingerprint are the most practical new features of the iPhone 5S. Reviewers find the new iSight camera a great upgrade from the last model, with burst technology that allows you to take multiple photos in sequence and True Tone flash that identifies the dominant colors in your environment and adjusts the more powerful flash accordingly.
  • Downsides: The screen is roughly the same size as the iPhone5 and the price point, with plan, remains comparable to previous releases.

iPhone 5C

  • Upsides: The iPhone 5C has the same basic specs as the iPhone 5 with increased battery life and a front-facing FaceTime camera. The $99 price point (with plan) makes it easier to equip your staff or family with a high-functioning device for less.
  • Downsides: The more powerful iPhone 5S is more expensive, but is considered the true upgrade. Plus, the plastic aesthetic is not as sleek as what you’re getting in the traditional model.
