Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4

Microsoft’s latest tablet, the Surface Pro 4, is available online and at electronics retailers.

Demand is strong; the tablet sold out on preorders at many locations, although it should be back in stock soon.

The tablet redesign is coupled with a new version of the attachable Type Cover (that will also work with the Surface 3). The new cover has better key action and a larger trackpad. (As before, it’s sold separately.)

Another accessory should excite designers, artists, and note-takers: the new Surface Pen, Microsoft’s answer to the Apple Pencil. This one comes in the box.

For the tablet itself, the screen is slightly bigger, but the real reason to upgrade is the hardware. The beefiest model manages to pack 16 GB of RAM and a terabyte of storage into a third of an inch. It’s designed to be the same height and width as a sheet of paper, at 11.50″ x 7.93″ x 0.33″. It’s also got an Intel Core i7 processor.

Starting at $899, the cheapest model has 8 GB of memory, 128 GB of storage, and a moderate processor.

If you’re looking for a tablet-that-can-laptop (as opposed to the Surface book, which is a laptop-that-can-tablet), take a look at the latest Surface Pro.
