Microsoft Visual Studio Embraces the Wider Developer Ecosystem

Microsoft Visual Studio now has a GitHub extension. GitHub is a popular repository and version control system for storing code, a great deal of which is open source. With this Visual Studio extension, Microsoft is further embracing open source software and a plural development ecosystem.

Visual Studio is Microsoft’s integrated development environment, which is basically a convenient app where developers can write and test code.

This add-on for Visual Studio comes on top of the release of the Community 2013 edition last fall, which provides unlimited access to Visual Studio for free for lone developers, small groups, nonprofits, and students.

In addition, Visual Studio Code runs on Linux, OS X, and Windows, making it a truly diverse tool for today’s developers.
