It’s that time of year again: yearly progress evaluations. No one likes to brag about themselves (and if you have an employee who does, maybe you should reconsider…) and filling out self-evaluations can add stress during the hectic holiday season—leading to less than insightful responses. Here are a few tips to take the pressure off:

  1. Your medium matters—use a format everyone can access. It might sound like a no-brainer, but if your entire company doesn’t use Adobe Reader on a regular basis, they might not be comfortable using it to fill out a form.
  2. Take it online. A number of digital survey tools are available online. Consider the simplicity of SurveyMonkey, especially if you already use it to capture customer data.
  3. Carve out time. Give your staff dedicated time to fill out the evaluation, in whatever form. Have them block their calendars for the same time slot and set it aside to fill out evaluations.
