How Desktop-As-A-Service Benefits Your Business

Is your business struggling to keep up with software updates, security, and other IT-related work? You may have heard of VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure), but it’s pricey and requires significant IT support. Did you know there’s a less costly alternative to VDI?

DaaS, or Desktop as a Service, is gaining popularity with more than one provider to choose from. DaaS runs in the cloud, and the cloud provider streams the entire desktop, including the operating system, apps, files, and user settings. You can concentrate on your business, and not on software or security issues. It makes supporting hybrid or remote workers a snap, as they can access it from any device.

The usual pricing structure is per-user, making it easy to budget. DaaS allows you to quickly add users, and the provider coordinates security with you. It’s also simple to isolate a compromised desktop.

The provider handles all those pesky updates and patches. Redundancy is integral and provides disaster recovery protection. However, DaaS is not a good choice if your internet connection is unreliable, you require customization, or special security.

Switching providers is difficult, so choose carefully before signing contracts. The best-known suppliers are Microsoft, offering AVD or Windows 365; AWS, offering Amazon WorkSpaces; Omnissa, offering Omnissa Horizon, and Citrix.

Worried about the effect of AI? It’s well-suited to DaaS, as it’s designed for data center models.
